Mohammed Alshammari is a researcher specialising in Natural Language Processing (NLP), Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) and explainable AI for biomedical applications. He completed his BSc in Computer Science at Northern Border University in Saudi Arabia, followed by an MSc in Computer Science at Cardiff University. His undergraduate and master’s research focused on natural language processing, with his MSc thesis on the detection and mitigation of fake and misleading news using NLP techniques. Since January 2017, he has held the position of Teaching Assistant and Software Developer at King Khalid University, contributing to the modernisation of educational technologies and the integration of AI into learning environments. In 2021, he additionally served as Head of Student Affairs, where he was responsible for managing student services, supporting academic initiatives, and improving the student experience. Currently, Mohammed is a PhD researcher at the Adaptive Intelligence Lab, where he is working on trustworthy and interpretable AI systems for healthcare applications. His research focuses on integrating validated medical knowledge graphs with advanced retrieval and explanation techniques to build accurate, transparent and reliable biomedical question answering systems. This involves creating segmentation-aware processing pipelines, implementing adaptive SHAP-weighted embedding methods, and designing explainable retrieval mechanisms that improve both performance and trustworthiness in clinical information access.
